vanished

On 7 June, Spanish police received a phone call from a man claiming to know the whereabouts of Madeleine, using a mobile phone registered in Argentina. The call was described as "credible".

In June, Spanish investigative journalist Antonio Toscano claimed that the four-year-old was abducted by a French sex offender, as part of a Europe-wide paedophile network. Then, on 28 June, Toscano claimed that Madeleine was alive and well in Europe but Madeleine's parents refused to meet with him. Determined to leave no stone unturned, police also examined hundreds of reports from psychics and clairvoyants claiming to know the location of Madeleine. The police said that they decided to check them all in case they might contain a message from the kidnapper.

The investigation was thrown into confusion on 10 June when the detective coordinating the hunt, Gonçalo Amaral, head of the regional Polícia Judiciária, and four other Portuguese police officers, were charged with alleged offences relating to the inquiry into the disappearance of Joana Cipriano, from a village seven miles (11 km) from where Madeleine disappeared.

(PORTUGAL) JUSTICE-INTERIOR-EVENTS, EVENTS

The lack of developments in the Madeleine case prevents reopening

Lisbon, May 3 (EFE) .- The Portuguese authorities have not taken any steps to reopen the case of British girl Madeleine McCann, who disappeared three years ago today, in the absence of new evidence emerged that warrant further investigation.

According to legal sources consulted by Efe, despite the statements regularly made Madeleine's parents and those arising in the lawsuit against former researcher keep them Luso related to the death of his daughter, has not been made public any news that take to Justice to reopen the case.

To mark the third anniversary of the disappearance of her daughter, Kate and Gerry McCann have reappeared in several European television channels and print media to insist that her daughter believe she is alive and seeking help to find it.

The couple, who in 2007 organized the biggest campaign of media coverage and fundraising carried out in a disappearance case, has reiterated, though without giving details, that has new clues to the fate that could run the child.

But the Portuguese Justice, which officially closed the investigation one year after the disappearance, it could only reopen, according to sources with strong indications that add to the case and were formally reported to the police.

The Attorney General of Portugal, to close the case on July 21, 2008, rejected both the evidence that related to the McCanns with the death of his daughter as pointing to the rapture of the child by a stranger.

After having declared official suspects in the case, prosecutors also ruled against marriage act for leaving Madeleine, who was 3 years old the night she disappeared, alone with two younger brothers, while they dined with friends.

The couple said they had taken turns going to see the children, but in his testimony and those of his friends, as well as traces of a corpse found in his car and belongings, is where the Portuguese police found the greatest contradictions and suspicions the case.

The Portuguese authorities were accused of failing to act vigorously in the first hours after the disappearance and neglecting the crime scene were never a trace of the girl and could not even get back to Portugal to friends of the couple to make a reconstruction of the facts.

The evidence collected with the help of British police officers and bloodhounds were months in a British laboratory that eventually issued a report without sufficient certainty to involve parents or shed some light on the case, according to police officials said then Lusos.

The McCanns, who hurriedly left Portugal when they were declared suspects in September 2007, returned last year to sue the police officer who led the investigation, Gonçalo Amaral, resigned and retired early and now in danger of ending up in ruin by demand partner.

The book, which reviews the details of Amaral's research also included in the public docket of the case, and suggests that Madeleine died accidentally and the parents got rid of the corpse, was banned in February after a first win of marriage British civil courts Lusos.

Madeleine disappeared on May 3, 2007 for an apartment in Praia da Luz in the Algarve, and all that survives of it is, by far, the thousands of pages of a Portuguese research not guilty and the images and comments website that keep their parents.

The McCanns were declared innocent and always determined to find his daughter who is currently used as a message of anniversary, this phrase: "Madeleine. Still lost, still missed, still you seek." EFE

Still hoping for Madeleine

By Judy Finnigan

Saturday, May 15, 2010

GERRY and Kate McCann live in a world that one can only dimly guess at.

This week they held a birthday party for missing Madeleine, who they firmly believe passed her seventh birthday on Wednesday.

Friends and relatives came to the family home in Rothley, Leicestershire, for a tea party.

Madeleine's siblings, Sean and Amelie, now five, celebrated along with everyone else. Apparently they talk often about their big sister. Kate recently revealed that Amelie said: "Mummy, she might speak another language now," and Sean said: "Never give up, Mummy." Kate replied: "Don't worry. I won't do that. None of us will."

It is heartbreaking stuff.

But Kate is right. We won't give up or stop praying.

We refuse to lose hope that one day, one glorious day, Madeleine will return
to her loving family.
