vanished

On 7 June, Spanish police received a phone call from a man claiming to know the whereabouts of Madeleine, using a mobile phone registered in Argentina. The call was described as "credible".

In June, Spanish investigative journalist Antonio Toscano claimed that the four-year-old was abducted by a French sex offender, as part of a Europe-wide paedophile network. Then, on 28 June, Toscano claimed that Madeleine was alive and well in Europe but Madeleine's parents refused to meet with him. Determined to leave no stone unturned, police also examined hundreds of reports from psychics and clairvoyants claiming to know the location of Madeleine. The police said that they decided to check them all in case they might contain a message from the kidnapper.

The investigation was thrown into confusion on 10 June when the detective coordinating the hunt, Gonçalo Amaral, head of the regional Polícia Judiciária, and four other Portuguese police officers, were charged with alleged offences relating to the inquiry into the disappearance of Joana Cipriano, from a village seven miles (11 km) from where Madeleine disappeared.

Statement from The Madeleine Foundation:

In order to highlight a key aspect of the Madeleine McCann case, namely Dr Kate McCann's refusal to answer any one of 48 questions put to her by the Portuguese Police on 7 September 2007, The Madeleine Foundation has just published (13 July) a special YouTube video on the subject.

Our Secretary, Tony Bennett, reads out each of the 48 questions, with the text of those questions being clearly shown across the screen as he speaks. Already many poeple have told us of the impact on them of hearing and seeing these questions. It has led them to think again about these questions and ponder on why Dr McCann refused to answer any of them. In just under 10 minutes' viewing, the key issues in this case are highlighted. Please pass this message on so that as many people as possible become better informed about the issues surrounding Madeleine McCann's mysterious disappearance.

Already the video has been seen by nearly 1,000 people in just its first two days.

You can catch up with all that we're doing, and read many articles about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, on our website: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

From the Committee of The Madeleine Foundation, 15 July 2010

Update: The youtube video seems to have been carter-rucked but you can read the 48 questions here in the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or see the video on this blog [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
-----
Statement from the Madeleine Foundation - 16 July:
Late yesterday we received an e-mail from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] demanding that our 48 question U-tube video be pulled immediately on the grounds that it was libelous. The Madeleine Foundation absolutely denies that the U-tube video is libelous. On the contrary, it is a factual account of the exact 48 questions that Dr. Kate McCann refused to answer. In addition, in the introduction to the video we told viewers the 2 reasons given by the McCanns for her refusing to answer the questions, (1. Her solicitor advising her of her right to remain silent, and 2. her belief that the police were suspecting her instead of looking for Madeleine. The Madeleine Foundation has attempted to contact U-tube at numerous times in the past 24 hours but all attempts have failed so far. There are other outlets for videos and we will be seeking to upload our video elsewhere as soon as we can.

Theparents of Madeleine McCann never think about giving up the search for their missing daughter. They now have a truck, bearing a message to look for the girl, crossing through Europe. The ten ton truck even pulled by our country.

The blond girl disappeared three years ago on holiday in Portugal. Maddie was three years old at that time.

THE parents of missing Madeleine McCann were given fresh hope in the search for their daughter.

Kate, from Allerton, and her husband Gerry had a meeting with Home Secretary Theresa May where the couple asked the new government for help. The two doctors, who live in Leicestershire, are hopeful Madeleine can be found.

McCanns meet May in Madeleine probe
August 6, 2010 @ 9:24 am Posted By BIG ON News

Kate and Gerry McCann have held talks with Home Secretary Theresa May to discuss the search for their missing daughter Madeleine.

The couple used the meeting on Wednesday to appeal for extra help from the coalition Government to look for the little girl. It is more than three years since Madeleine disappeared from a holiday resort in southern Portugal.

Mr and Mrs McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, want a full independent review of the police investigation into what happened to their daughter.

They complained in February that they encountered “reluctance” when they asked the British authorities to re-examine all the information held by law enforcement agencies around the world.

Mr McCann said: “I think people are reluctant to undertake a review because there’s been difficult, sensitive issues. But Madeleine’s rights should be put first. She’s missing, she’s innocent and whoever’s taken her is still out there, and that has to be of paramount importance.”

Mr McCann said: “I think people are reluctant to undertake a review because there’s been difficult, sensitive issues. But Madeleine’s rights should be put first. She’s missing, she’s innocent and whoever’s taken her is still out there, and that has to be of paramount importance.”

A Home Office spokesman said: “The Home Secretary held a private meeting with Kate and Gerry McCann on Wednesday to discuss the case of their missing daughter Madeleine. The Government’s primary concern in this matter is the wellbeing of Madeleine McCann and to ensure that everything feasible is being done to progress the search for her.”

Madeleine was three when she went missing from her family’s holiday flat in Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3 2007 as her parents dined with friends nearby.

Portuguese police launched a massive investigation with the support of British officers but the inquiry was formally shelved in July 2008 without reaching any firm conclusions about the child’s fate.

Private detectives employed by the McCanns are continuing to investigate the case.

McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “I can confirm that Kate and Gerry met the Home Secretary on Wednesday to continue their discussions with the Government over what can be done to assist the search for Madeleine. As with all their private Governmental contacts, the details of the discussion with Theresa May will remain confidential.”
